Ontinyent is the capital of the Vall d’Albaida region, in the Valencian Community. It is surrounded by mountains and located at an altitude of 359 metres above sea level, with an average temperature of 8ºC in wintertime and 23ºC during the summer.
We are 84 km. away from Valencia, 97 km. from the city of Alicante and easily accessible by dual carriageway from both capitals. Gandia and its beaches are only about 53 km. from Ontinyent, Xàbia at 93 km., Altea at 114 km., and the tourist city par excellence, Benidorm, at 108 km.
The closest towns around us are Agullent, Aielo de Malferit, Albaida, Bocairent and Fontanars dels Alforins, apart from the 28 remaining villages of our region.
Camilo José Cela, the Nobel prizewinner of Literature (1989), wrote in his work Gavilla de fábulas sin amor: “In heaven on earth (according to the wise study of the Presbyterian Mr. Vicente Martínez Chiva, alias Vicentico, it is near Ontinyent) everything was wealth and welfare and comfort”. |
